In North Carolina our state government has been hijacked by a radical faction of the Republican Party that misrepresents the values we hold dear. The normal business of government has slowed to a trickle because of their exclusive attention to enacting laws that do not benefit most of us here in our great state. This year, 2024, all but two legislative races are in play (168 of 170 total). We have a real chance at restoring balance in the General Assembly and to work to restore decency and normalcy to politics in North Carolina.

I have the experience and character to do a good job representing you. I have worked as a lawyer, a school administrator, a high school librarian, and now am proud to be a small business owner. I have raised 4 children – as a single mom for the last several years. Juggling full time work while also parenting and serving on several non-profit boards and offering public service work has been an essential part of my life. I want to give back to the community that has given me such a rich and diverse place to grow up in, live, and work.

I want to leave any community I am a part of better than I found it. And my track record certainly provides proof that this is how I do business.

Eastern North Carolina has been ignored by the state legislature for a long time. We have watched our schools receive less and less funding; we are apalled at our communities disappearing options for affordable health care, and economic development is almost non-existent.

That isn’t even half of it. Your basic rights and mine are on the line today. The right to have our vote count is stripped away by partisan gerrymandering -with maps redrawn to give one party more power permanently.  Our childrens’ right to a basic education is at stake by draining off public money to private schools through the school voucher program. Most importantly to me – women’s rights to control their healthcare have been compromised and are definitely on the chopping block if Republicans win in November.

It is time to end corporate influence peddling and back-room dealing in North Carolina politics. We must restore the principles of democracy so that elected representatives listen to the people and legislate in their best interests. I want to work to support rural communities to find solution- oriented visions that will strengthen both our lives and our bank accounts. We need to create more opportunities for success here in our northeastern corner of the state.

I promise you, when elected, I will research, listen, learn, and offer solutions. I will communicate. I will show up for you.

We need to get out the vote. NC House District 1 has been recrafted (with redrawn maps) to create a “safe” seat for my opponent – rewarding him for always voting in line with party interests rather than northeastern NC interests. It is my mission to reach everyone in Tyrrell, Washington, Perquimans, Northern Dare, Currituck, and Chowan counties to inform citizens, energize local leaders, and let voters know they have a real chance in November to change their lives and communities for the good.

With over 62,000 voters in District 1, that takes a lot of time and money. You can be a part of the effort by learning about the issues, talking to your friends, and sharing your opinions. You can support my outreach efforts with your donations.

I cannot do this alone. I need your support – please join me!
